Cranbrook's North Star Rails to Trails Access Information

After a long wait the recommendation to rename our Rails to Trails, 'North Star Rails to Trails' will be made at Council tonight. The name North Star Trail was chosen by several people in a competition of the fall 2010.  This name makes sense considering the first mine opened at Kimberley was the North Star. North Star was also the name given to the junction where the C.P.R. branch line built to haul the ore, left the main line close to Cranbrook. We owe the existence of the railway to the mine. The name shares historical meaning for both Cranbrook and Kimberley and rolls off the tongue as well as the wheels that rotate between the two communities.

The Cranbrook Guardian continues to experience a high amount of traffic generated by the North Star Trail. In fact Rails to Trails is one of the top searches reaching this blog.  This reflects the popularity of the trail.

Cyclists would also like to thank those responsible for the ramps placed at the Shadow Mountain Entrance for they make, buggy pushing and cycling a lot easier.

To the right of this post we have made available a new Access map for the North Star.  Just click to print.  This map has been made available to us by an avid local geocacher.  Many Thanks.
