Castlegar is pursuing a grant opportunity that would help with the installation of an electric vehicle charging station.
Councillor Dan Rye explains the idea stemmed from the recent Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) conference where the mayor entered a draw and won a charging station for his community. It's worth about $2,000. So with one unit already coming for free Rye says they're looking for a second so there can be one at either end of the city.
Rye figures the idea fits with Castlegar's green agenda and publicly advertising the station could help bring travelling electric car drivers into the community.
Locations at the library and Community Complex are being considered.
Rye says the grant through "Plug-in BC" would cover 75% of the estimated $4,000 total cost which includes the installation costs and connections to the grid.
