Fifty Years of the Faces of Sam Steele

The 6’ folding panel “Faces of Sam Steele Days Photo Collage” will be on public display beginning May 3rd at Tamarack Centre for all to view. The Sam Steele Society would like to express deep gratitude to MBSS Teachers Paul Duczek and Bonnie Hayes, MBSS students, City Glass and Windshield Shop Ltd. and everyone who contributed photos.

For forty nine years photos, programs schedules and newspaper clippings from the Sam Steele Days festival have been saved and stored by the Sam Steele Society. The documents testify to a Cranbrook BC COMMUNITY SPIRIT that has blossomed with each new generation through sports, music, art, competitions & games, the grand parade and the exceptional ambassador program – the Sweethearts of Sam Steele.

Mount Baker Secondary School Students embraced the undertaking of this commemorative project called the “Faces of Sam Steele Days Photo Collage”. MBSS teacher Mr. Paul Duczek coordinated the construction of the three, six foot adjoining panels adorned with all the smiling faces of participants and spectators, ambassadors and visitors, and people of all diversities who came, played and enjoyed the festival’s events over five decades.

Photography student and former Sweetheart of Sam Steele contestant, Chelsea Paul, volunteered her time and talents to create the collage display on the panels. Dewayne Penner and Karl Arnold at City Glass and Windshield Shop Ltd. in Cranbrook generously donated their expertise plus the protective glass and trimming materials that complete the finishing touches of the project.

Your business or organization can also arrange to host the display for a one week period between May 10th and June 21st by contacting the Sam Steele Society (250) 426-4161 or email info@samsteeledays.org For more information on this and other events/projects please visit our website www.samsteeledays.org
This year the Sam Steele Days festival will kick off on Thursday, June 19th and run until Sunday, June 22nd
